MeitY Establishes Expert Panel to Develop National Framework for GCCs in India

In a significant move to bolster India's position as a global tech hub, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has formed a dedicated panel to create a national framework for Global Capability Centres (GCCs). This initiative, reported on May 28, 2025, aims to streamline the growth and operations of GCCs across the country, particularly in emerging tier-2 cities.

The panel, comprising industry leaders, advisory firms, and government representatives, will focus on key areas such as talent availability, infrastructure development, and fostering innovation. This framework is expected to provide clear guidelines for states to attract and support GCCs, which are critical for driving technological advancements and economic growth.

As announced in the Union Budget 2025-26, the government envisions GCCs as a cornerstone of India's digital economy. By expanding these centers into smaller cities, the initiative aims to decentralize economic opportunities and reduce urban congestion while tapping into local talent pools.

GCCs, often referred to as global capacity centers, are offshore units of multinational corporations that handle critical functions like IT services, research, and development.
